Origin of the recipe

"Bibim" means "mixing" in Korean, and "bap" means boiled rice. During cooking, a variety of individually prepared ingredients—meat, colorful vegetables, mushrooms, and a single fried egg—are layered on the rice, along with spicy seasonings. This dish looks beautiful when fully cooked, but it's thoroughly mixed just before serving.

Step-by-step recipe

Step 1:

Rinse and boil the rice in a slow cooker.

Step 2:

Finely chop the beef, place in a bowl, add 3 crushed garlic cloves, a teaspoon of sugar, half a teaspoon of soy sauce, and a teaspoon of sesame oil. Season with pepper to taste, stir, and marinate for 20-30 minutes.

Step 3:

Rinse the mung bean sprouts, place them in boiling water for half a minute and remove immediately.

Step 4:

Chop the spinach and quickly cook it in boiling water. Drain the sprouts and spinach.

Step 5:

Drizzle the vegetables with soy sauce and sesame oil, sprinkle with sesame seeds and toss each pile separately.

Step 6:

Cut the carrots into strips, add salt and pepper to taste and fry in a frying pan with vegetable oil for 2-3 minutes.

Step 7:

Cut the zucchini into strips, add salt and pepper and fry for 1-2 minutes.

Step 8:

Slice the mushrooms and fry, stirring, for 2-3 minutes, season with salt and pepper, then place on a plate with the rest of the vegetables.

Step 9:

Place the meat in a frying pan with vegetable oil and fry, stirring, until most of the liquid has evaporated, then remove from heat and set aside.

Step 10:

Place the cooked rice in a deep bowl and spread all the prepared ingredients over it.

Step 11:

Fry one egg sunny side up and place it on top of the rice.

Step 12:

Place 3 tablespoons of Korean chili sauce, 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 1/2 tablespoon of soy sauce, and 1 teaspoon of sugar in a bowl. Stir.

Step 13:

Pour the sauce over the rice and mix all the ingredients.

Cooking tips

The beef can be either chopped with a knife or passed through a meat grinder.

The dish's ingredients can vary, so feel free to use your imagination. For example, you could use shiitake mushrooms or button mushrooms, or use other vegetables to your liking.

Don't overdo it with sesame oil – it has a rather pungent taste.
