Gingerbread house
Origin of the recipe
You can place not only the traditional Santa Claus under the Christmas tree, but also a unique, elegant, and, most importantly, edible decoration. Step-by-step recipe
Step 1:
Make templates for the house parts out of paper or cardboard.
Step 2:
Combine ground ginger and cinnamon, salt, butter, sugar, molasses, and milk in a saucepan. Cook, stirring, until smooth.
Step 3:
Place flour and baking powder in a bowl, pour in the mixture from the ladle, and mix. Knead with your hand.
Step 4:
Beat two eggs and knead.
Step 5:
Cover with film and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
Step 6:
Roll out the dough between two sheets of paper using a rolling pin.
Step 7:
Place the templates on the dough and cut out the pieces with a sharp knife.
Step 8:
Prick the pieces with a toothpick, line the baking sheet with a non-stick mat and bake large pieces for 11-15 minutes and small pieces for 6-8 minutes at 175 degrees.
Step 9:
Combine granulated sugar and distilled or bottled water in a saucepan, place over medium heat, cover, and cook for 5 minutes. Do not stir!
Step 10:
Add corn syrup without stirring, heat to 150 degrees and remove from heat.
Step 11:
Place the pieces with windows on the mat and pour the prepared syrup into the holes.
Step 12:
Glue small details with meringue cream or melted dark chocolate from a pastry bag.
Step 13:
Connect the large pieces to the prepared base using the remaining “glass” syrup and coat the seams with cream or melted chocolate.
Step 14:
Decorate the house with white meringue cream as in the video or to your taste.
Cooking tips
It's best to knead the dough with gloved hands. Be careful with the syrup for the glass of the house—it's very hot! If you want to decorate the house with more than just white details, use food coloring. You can also add some Christmas trees made from ice cream cones and green frosting near the house.
