Step-by-step recipe
Step 1:
If desired, peel the apples, core them, and slice them into thin wedges. These apple wedges will create the delicate filling for our apple pie.
Step 2:
Melt the butter in a frying pan. Add 100 g of sugar and cook over medium heat until golden brown, stirring constantly. Be careful not to overheat the caramel, otherwise it will become bitter.
Step 3:
Place the apples in the pan with the caramel. Cook for 5–7 minutes, until the apples are soft and the caramel is saturated. This mixture will become the heart of our pie.
Step 4:
In a bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar and vanilla extract until fluffy. Sift the flour and baking powder and gently fold into the batter. This is the base for any airy pie.
Step 5:
Place the caramel apples in a parchment-lined pan. Pour the batter over them, spreading it evenly. This caramel apple pie will be moist and flavorful.
Step 6:
Preheat oven to 180°C. Bake for 40–45 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool before serving—this will allow the caramel to better soak up the pie.
Cooking tips
Use sweet and tart apples (such as Granny Smith) - they are ideal for baking.
Do not overheat the caramel - it can become bitter and spoil the taste of the whole pie.
For the perfect upside-down effect, place the caramel on the bottom of the pan, then the apples, and then the batter.
Check the readiness of the pie with a toothpick - it should come out dry.
