Making this crab salad doesn't require a lot of time or exotic ingredients. All the ingredients in this crab salad recipe are readily available.
Step-by-step recipe
Step 1:
Finely chop the dill and place it in the bowl in which we will prepare our crab salad.
NOTE: Use only fresh dill for the dressing. The finer the dill is chopped, the more flavor it will impart and the more delicate the dressing will be.
Step 2:
Grate the cheese on a fine grater and add it to the bowl with the salad.
NOTE: Use hard or semi-hard cheeses. If the cheese is grated coarsely, it won't mix evenly with the mayonnaise, and the flavor of the dressing won't be consistent.
Step 3:
Add chopped garlic to the cheese and dill.
NOTE: If you prefer a more savory crab salad, you can add 1.5–2 cloves of garlic. Garlic will add a spicy kick and flavor to the dish.
Step 4:
Add mustard, mayonnaise and a little ground black pepper.
NOTE: The mustard in our crab salad recipe should be mild. Strong mustard can overpower the delicate flavor of the crab salad.
Step 5:
Mix everything thoroughly, then move on to the remaining ingredients in the salad.
Step 6:
Cut the crab sticks into small cubes and add to the bowl.
NOTE: Make sure the crab sticks are completely defrosted before slicing. For a more appealing salad, it's best to have all the cubes the same size.
Step 7:
Finely chop the eggs and add them to the bowl with the crab salad.
NOTE: Eggs should be hard-boiled and cooled completely. To ensure the slices are as fine and even as possible, you can use an egg slicer.
Step 8:
Cut fresh cucumbers into small cubes and add them to the bowl with the remaining ingredients.
NOTE: Pay attention to the cucumber skin – it should not be too thick or tough, so that the crab salad turns out as tender as possible.
Step 9:
Add canned corn to the crab salad.
NOTE: Corn adds a sweet and moist flavor to the crab salad. Drain the corn to prevent the salad from becoming watery.
Step 10:
Add the dressing and mix the salad.
NOTE: Add salt only after adding the dressing, as the mayonnaise and cheese already contain salt. Refrigerate the finished crab salad for 30 minutes to allow it to marinate.
Cooking tips
To ensure your crab salad is delicious, follow these tips:
The quality of the crab sticks. This is the key component. Choose crab sticks with a high surimi content (at least 30-40%). The higher the quality of the sticks, the more delicious the crab salad will be.
Experiment with cheese. The garlic, dill, and cheese dressing is the highlight of this recipe. Try replacing the hard cheese in the salad with processed cheese (such as Druzhba) for a creamier dressing.
Additional ingredients. There are various crab salad recipes. For a more filling crab salad, you can add boiled rice. If you prefer a more vibrant salad, add finely chopped green onions or a marinated red onion.
Fresh cucumbers. Fresh cucumbers add the necessary crunch and freshness to a salad. If fresh cucumbers are unavailable, you can add lightly salted cucumbers to the salad, but be careful with the salt.
Don't dress the salad all at once unless you plan to serve it immediately. A fresh salad is always better. Leftover dressing can be stored in the refrigerator.
Sweet corn is an essential ingredient. It adds a delicate flavor and juiciness. Use plenty of corn. If you like a more pronounced corn flavor, increase the amount.
The cutting should be uniform. It's important that all the cubes are approximately the same size. This improves not only the appearance but also the overall flavor of the dish.
Mayonnaise forms the base of the salad dressing. If you prefer a more nutritious meal, you can substitute it with Greek yogurt.
Corn and crab sticks always add a festive touch to a salad. Serve this crab stick and corn salad chilled, garnished with a sprig or finely chopped dill or parsley. For a brighter flavor, add some bell pepper. It's a great complement to the crab sticks and corn.
