Origin of the recipe
This cake is made from glutinous rice flour and brown sugar, which symbolize integrity and a sweet life. It is the most important cake of the Chinese New Year and is prepared only once a year.

Step-by-step recipe
Step 1:
Dissolve 450 g of brown sugar in 500 ml of water in a saucepan over low heat. Remove the syrup from the heat and let it cool, stirring occasionally.
Step 2:
Place 450g of glutinous rice flour in a large bowl, add tapioca starch. Stir.
Step 3:
Pour in sugar syrup and stir.
Step 4:
Add 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Stir.
Step 5:
Strain the dough through a sieve.
Step 6:
Grease the pan with vegetable oil and pour in the dough.
Step 7:
Get rid of the bubbles.
Step 8:
Cover the pan with foil, place in a steamer and cook for 50-60 minutes.
Step 9:
Remove the pie from the pan and garnish with a date.
Cooking tips
Stir the syrup constantly, both on the heat and while cooling. Pour the syrup into the flour and starch mixture gradually, in portions, stirring.
Remove any bubbles on the surface of the mold with a toothpick. Shake the mold to release air to the surface.
