Lenten Zebra Pie

Everyone knows the beautiful and easy-to-make Zebra pie, made with vanilla and chocolate dough. But what if you're currently off-limits to all animal products, but still crave your favorite pie? Try baking a Lenten or vegan version—it's just as beautiful and delicious!

Step-by-step recipe
Step 1:
Pour sugar into a bowl.
Step 2:
Add soda and whisk.
Step 3:
Pour in vegetable oil and stir.
Step 4:
Sift flour and baking powder into the mixture. Stir.
Step 5:
Pour the mixture into two bowls.
Step 6:
Sift cocoa into one of the portions, pour in rum.
Step 7:
Pour vanilla extract into the second portion and add vanilla sugar.
Step 8:
Mix both mixtures with a whisk.
Step 9:
Line the bottom of the pan with paper and pour the vanilla and chocolate batter into the center one at a time, starting with the vanilla.
Step 10:
Preheat oven to 200 degrees and bake for 35-40 minutes.
Step 11:
Dust the pie with powdered sugar and serve.
Cooking tips
Be sure to wash your whisk well before mixing the second batch of dough or use a different one.
Before dusting the cake with powdered sugar, let it cool slightly to prevent the powder from clumping together.
