In Chinese culture, radish is a symbol of well-being and prosperity, so it is often included in dishes during the New Year celebrations. These cakes are more than just a treat, but a part of the cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation, reflecting the importance of family traditions and the festive spirit in Chinese cuisine.

Step-by-step recipe
Step 1:
Place dried shiitake mushrooms in a bowl, cover with hot water and let them swell.
Step 2:
Drain the mushrooms and chop finely. Save the liquid.
Step 3:
Peel the daikon and grate it on a coarse grater.
Step 4:
Place the daikon in a frying pan, add water, cover and simmer.
Step 5:
Squeeze the liquid out of the daikon and reserve it.
Step 6:
Pour oil into the frying pan, add chopped mushrooms, salt, stir, add chopped garlic and sesame oil, fry a little, stirring.
Step 7:
Add chopped green onions, stir and fry for a while.
Step 8:
Place the mixture in a bowl and let cool.
Step 9:
Mix rice flour and cornstarch in a bowl.
Step 10:
Place the daikon radish in the pan, add the 5-spice powder, white pepper, sugar, and dry vegetable broth. Stir and reduce the heat to low.
Step 11:
Add flour with starch and mushroom broth little by little, stirring.
Step 12:
Add mushroom mixture and stir.
Step 13:
Spray a round pan with oil, line the bottom with a circle of paper, put the prepared dough in it and smooth it out.
Step 14:
Fill a deep frying pan with water, set the steamer rack in place, place the pan in the pan and cook covered for 55 minutes to an hour.
Step 15:
Cool the pie and put it in the refrigerator overnight.
Step 16:
Trim the edges, turn out onto a clean surface, remove the pan and paper.
Step 17:
Cut the pie into portions.
Step 18:
Pour vegetable oil into the frying pan and brown the pieces on both sides.
Cooking tips
Daikon can be not only grated, but also cut into thin strips.
Add liquid to dry ingredients in small portions, stirring until you achieve the desired consistency.
You can keep the trimmed edges of the pie for yourself, offering only rectangular pieces to your guests. The pieces can be frozen for future use, wrapped in paper.
