Spicy marinated herring

A marinade can transform the most ordinary fish into a culinary masterpiece. Prepare homemade canned Baltic herring marinated with spicy seasonings that will delight you and your guests for days to come.

Step-by-step recipe
Step 1:
Defrost and rinse the sprat.
Step 2:
Place the fish in the container evenly and parallel to each other.
Step 3:
Pour water into the pan.
Step 4:
Add bay leaf, salt, sugar, pepper mixture, dill, coriander, and peppercorns to the water.
Step 5:
Bring the marinade to a boil, stirring occasionally.
Step 6:
Cool the marinade to room temperature.
Step 7:
Pour the marinade over the fish.
Step 8:
Weigh down the fish by placing another container on top and placing a heavy object in it.
Step 9:
Marinate the herring for 24 hours at room temperature.
Step 10:
Place the fish in a jar, pour in the marinade from the container, close the lid and put it in the refrigerator for storage.
Step 11:
Before eating, cut off the head of the herring and gut it.
Step 12:
Place on a plate, drizzle with oil and sprinkle with chopped dill.
Cooking tips
If you don't have anything to weigh down the fish with, cover it tightly with a plastic bag; this will prevent the liquid from evaporating and preserve the flavor.
For added safety, it's best to sterilize the lids and jars. However, this isn't necessary unless you plan to store the fish for a short period of time.
