These days, it doesn't necessarily contain prunes, as a variety of other dried fruits have become available. This delicate, dark-colored dessert with a whole bouquet of spices is often doused with brandy and set on fire before serving.

Step-by-step recipe

Step 1:

English Plum Pudding - Step 1 Place white raisins, chopped prunes, black raisins, blackberries, dates and brown sugar in a bowl.

Step 2:

English Plum Pudding - Step 2 Stir, add dark rum and beer, stir again and leave to infuse for 24 hours.
