Classic sweet and sour sauce is usually not very spicy. Those who enjoy a truly spicy and Asian-inspired dish can try sweet and sour sauce with fresh chili peppers and garlic. The spiciness of this fiery sauce can be adjusted to your taste using smaller chili peppers, which are much spicier than larger ones.
Step-by-step recipe
Step 1:
Chop large and small chili peppers in a blender.
Step 2:
Add garlic, water and chop.
Step 3:
Pour the mixture into a saucepan, add fish sauce, vinegar, salt, sugar, water and stir.
Step 4:
Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes over low heat.
Step 5:
Dilute the starch with water, pour into a saucepan and cook for 2-3 minutes over low heat, stirring.
Step 6:
Cool and place in a gravy boat.
Cooking tips
Serve sweet and sour sauce with meat, poultry and seafood.
If you prefer a milder sauce, omit the small chili peppers.
